Happy Penguin Awareness Day!

About 2 years ago I got a bonus at work.  It actually happens every year but that year I decided with some of it that I would adopt a penguin.  I went online and did some research and found the place where my adoption money would best be served.  A lot of places only give a small amount of what you donate to the actual cause they are trying to get you to donate to.  A lot of it is administration fees, a stuffed animal for you and a lot of bureaucratic fluff so that the penguins never get the majority of the benefit.  I donate to Dr. Mike Bingham here

His site isn’t fancy but, then again, he is literally the only one that runs it while doing research and protection of the 5 species of penguins located on the Falkland Islands off the coast of Chile and Argentina.  For $50.00USD a year I adopted and named a penguin and I receive around 8 emails a year from Dr. Bingham with updates of Sir Echo Von Pepperwiggle (didn’t know it was a girl when I named her).  I have received photos of my penguin and know that she has had 2 clutches of baby penguins since I started donating.  I know her exact GPS coordinates for her burrow so if I was ever rich I could actually fly out and visit during the breeding season.

If you want to know more about his research please visit his website, he also has videos on Youtube and a book.
