Steampunk Novels! It’s possible it may just be me who is last off the steamboat but did you know there is an entire genre of books published for Steampunk lovers? Don’t worry I know about Jules Verne 🙂
Shelley Adina has written a series that was my first choice to start into this newly realized concept of Steampunk stories. Magnificant Devices centres around Lady Claire Trevelyan a very intelligent, headstrong and modern Victorian woman who finds herself falling from the upper class right into her own little gang of pick pockets.
Lady Tevelyan’s true passion is to be a recognized engineer in a world that is heavily ruled by the idea that women sip tea and men make machines. The stories that follow (9 and counting!) show her continued cunning as she navigates the London Underground which hilariously has her turning her Criminal Kingpin status into a reason to educate street urchins math and manners while also assisting a handsome and brilliant engineer and maintaining her façade amongst the Lords and Ladies who have no idea what she is up to in all her spare time not catching a wealthy man.

I have not caught up to all of Shelley Adina’s novels yet but she’s one hell of a fast writer it’s only been a year since I finished Brilliant Devices but there has been an additional 3 novels added to the Magnificant Devices series.
I would highly recommend this series to anyone who both likes strong female characters and Steampunk. It’s really refreshing that so far the Steampunk novels I have read seem to all centre around female characters. I’m not sure if this is because the genre is more oriented towards women readers, if it’s just a more entertaining direction or if maybe I’ve just lucked out with my choices. In any case, I enjoy being able to read a book where I more easily identify with the character and their struggles as it was not an option I really had growing up reading and I’m not a romance novel kind of girl – although there’s romance in these books too it thankfully is not the whole centre of the plot.
Wait…today is Valentine’s Day. OH YES THIS HAS LOVE AND ROMANCE AND SHOULD BE BOUGHT FOR YOUR VALENTINE’S SWEETHEART. OH MUH GURD IRTZ AMUGHZING. Strictly in e-book you can find them for sale on Amazon, Kobo and Chapters websites.
