*small spoiler at the end of this article.  If you haven’t caught up to the end of the last season do not read.

Earlier in the year it was announced that Moffat was finally stepping down as the Showrunner for Doctor Who.  I don’t have much against the man but a huge amount of the fan base hates him with a passion.  I don’t see everything these fans see but I have noted that his creativity has been lacking lately and he’s been recycling themes and stories with more frequency.  It’s also just terrible how he’s underused and treated Capaldi’s Doctor since he arrived.  Twelve has been poorly recieved to start and much of it I do blame on Moffat with his neglect in developing the new traits of the Doctor and instead over focusing on Clara.  Clara was an awesome companion (many in the fandom disagree with me) but she had too much focus for too long and it hurt Capaldi.

With Moffat leaving the show also came the devastating news that there would be no series in 2016 and only guesses and wishful thinking that there would still be a Christmas special (I’m leaning towards there will be).  There has also been large amounts of speculation on if Capaldi will exit with Moffat much like Tennant did when Davies stepped down.  Capaldi is, at this point, uncertain and doesn’t appear to be in a big rush to make the decision to stay or go but he has been asked to stay.

I’m glad to hear that the BBC has offered that Twelve stick around especially since this last series was the one where I felt we finally got the right kind of groove for Capaldi and it would be especially nice to see a Doctor stay for more than 3 seasons – something that hasn’t been accomplished in the long running show since the “Old Who” days.

We just lost Clara
We just lost River

Clara was not entirely unexpected outside of her own Devil-May-Care attitude finally catching up to her as she made an entirely too rash decision.  Technically, she’s still around with that bate and switch at the end for her to carry on in her own TARDIS but she’s still dead in the here and now.

River got a wonderful finish to her love story with the Doctor.  Yes, I do believe that the Christmas Special will be the last we see of River.  It was a perfectly wonderful way to close the gap of her story and his.  She was my favorite non-Doctor character and it stings that she’s just not going to pop in for a little “Sweetie” anymore.

With 2 major endings followed by Moffat’s departure it seems rather unfair to the fans of the show to keep ripping rubbing salt and lemon juice in our wounds.  The Doctor should stay as Capaldi just a little longer.
