My hope while I type this is to make enough sentences before dropping the bomb so as to not ruin it on the Facebook feed for people who have yet to see the season opener.

I will start by declaring that “The Walking Dead” pretty much has me walking out at this point. There is only so much loss of hope you can take in an extremely depressing show before you just can’t go on. I had one character I told my husband that if they died I would rage quit the show. This character died.

Now, I love Daryl. I don’t find him hot but I have enjoyed his character development and his genuinely good guy persona but between him and the inevitable choice I was hoping for everyone’s beloved backwater hilly billy to get the thwack. My thoughts for why I thought Daryl would get it were also because Norman Reedus has taken on several projects over the summer including staring in the newest Hideo Kojima project: Death Stranding. This is a big motion capture and voice acting project that would take up much of his time. Made sense he had to die.

I was pleasantly surprised when yee old red head Abraham got smacked. He was an OK character but not a critical one so surprising everyone by killing off a much less anticipated character was cool by me. I felt like they toyed with us over the summer and were letting us off easy for once.

Assholes.

Glenn is gone. The heart wrenching and gory end was almost picture perfect accurate to how he dies in the comic book. They didn’t steer away from his demise as many had hoped and hope is what has been killed.

Glenn’s character was the most optimistic, hopeful and “light at the end of the tunnel” character left on the show. His outlook on everything regardless of how bad it got and the fact that he’s a season 1 original had me cling to him in this reality like no other character. Watching his fake-out deaths all last season had me rattled. Finally doing one last bait and switch with him just made me want to walk out of the room.

At this point I’m 100% certain that the writers of the show give 0 fucks about the fans or about keeping a hope for a good ending of this show alive (haha, pun..kinda). This show will end exactly how this episode did. Maybe not with Rick but with whomever they choose to be the last character standing. They will be staring point blank at the camera, all hope lost, waiting for the end. I hate shows like that. What is the point of this journey especially when you smash all hope long before you have any plans for it all to be over with.

There comes a time in a show where you either decide to kick ass or just slowly shamble towards your inevitable demise. This show is literally the Walking Dead. I guess I should have known.

Goodbye Glenn.
