Today marks the beginning of Asexual Awareness Week! Come and celebrate with puns and cake!

What is an asexual, you may ask? The simplest definition is ‘a person who experiences little to no sexual attraction.’ This definition encompasses a broad spectrum of nuanced sexualities. No one expects you to learn the name of every type of asexual on the spectrum, but naming the variations is very important for asexuals to learn about themselves and, most importantly, know that they are not broken. They are not alone.

We are not broken.

We are not alone.

Though there is very little asexual representation in media, there are a few confirmed celebrities such as actress Janeane Garofalo (a former SNL cast member who portrayed the Bowler in the film ‘Mystery Men‘), Tim Gunn (known for his role on the show ‘Project Runway‘), and the Chief Creator of the video game series ‘BorderlandsMikey NeumannIn fiction Jughead Jones from the Archie Comics franchise is now canonically asexual as of Jughead #4 (another source, also I bought the comic so triple confirmed).

Since I’m not an expert on the subject, having only learnt of the community myself about three-ish years ago, I highly recommend this free to read book that thoroughly explains asexuality. Asexuality: a brief introduction”
